 One Piece At A Time

This photo captures one of the happiest moments of an antique car owners restoration process.  I rolled the car out of the garage and paid a hauler to take it to Ralph Baldwin’s restoration shop.  This bare bones skeleton of a 1929 60-C Model-A Fordor has been media-blasted, repaired, primered, painted, and lastly wet sanded.  It has been sitting in the garage for over 5 years waiting for this day.   After following it to the shop in New Milford, I returned home to start cleaning out the garage of all the disassembled parts, doors, fenders, running boards, splash aprons etc.  After several trips in my pick-up, all the parts were delivered to the shop.  Ralph has since chemically hand stripped each one & then had them sent out to American Dry Stripping for media blasting.  The parts have been returned to the shop, sanded, & painted with an epoxy primer.  Ralph has begun to do some minor sheet metal repair to the    fenders and splash aprons so he can      assemble them onto the car and check the alignment.  Once that is confirmed, he will complete the repairs, then re-primer and paint all the parts prior to final assembly.  He has told me this is one of the best preserved cars of its age he has ever seen.  Prior to purchasing it, I brought my fellow car club member George Gereg with me to see the car.  George owns three antique vehicles and has been in the hobby for over 3 decades.  He called the car a “Survivor Car”.  It apparently had been in dry storage for it’s entire life since there was very little sheet metal rot and NO Wood Rot!  Not a single piece of wood needs to be replaced in this vehicle during the restoration.  One roof support cracked and needs to be glued & clamped, but not replaced.  I have been in touch with a member of the Model-A Restorers Club who is very interested in this car as well.  The body tag is the earliest he has heard of and therefore of particular interest to him.

This beautiful vintage aircraft was at last year's show and besides being available for an up close & personal experience, performed several take-offs & landings on the grass field throughout the day.

A "Rainbow of Corvettes" was the cover shot on our Nov. 2008 issue of "One Piece At a Time" after our first show at Candlelight Farms Airport in New Milford, Ct.   There were more than 200 cars at the show as well as almost 1000 spectators.  Of the 200 cars entered, 110 chose to be judged.  Future  shows  will also include judging for the vintage aircraft with appropriate awards.
